César Awards 2021
Every year, more than 130 representatives of the French film industry are nominated for this prestigious award, whose statue was designed by sculptor César Baldaccini for his friend Georges Cravenne, producer and first president of the Film Academy. Every year, for 45 years now, the professional film community with bated breath awaits the results - the names of the winners of the award “César”.
This year’s nominees for the category "BEST FEATURE FILM" include some outstanding films. Among them are "Adieu les cons" by Albert Dupontel, "Ete 85" by François Ozon, "Adolescentes" by Sébastien Lifshitz, "Antoinette dans les Cévennes" by Caroline Vignal, and "Les choses qu'on dit, les" by Emmanuel Mouret.
Each of these filmmakers has an impressive body of work behind them and has won numerous film awards over the years. To date, the films nominated for the César Award in 2021 have already received wide interest from both the general public and film professionals. This is also the reason why Emmanuel Mouret, Albert Dupontel, François Ozon and Sébastien Lifshitz are in the category "BEST DIRECTOR". Another big name represented in this nomination is director Maïwenn, who created the film “DNA” in 2020. She is known for her roles in the films of Luc Besson, opera singer Diva Plavalaguna in the cult film "The Fifth Element" and Blonde Babe in "Leon", as well as as the director of the drama "Mon Roi".

The category "BEST FOREIGN FILM” presents an interesting selection of films. First of all, it is worth highlighting the military drama of Sam Mendes, "1917", which has already won the hearts of audiences worldwide – the picture has been presented in more than 60 countries. She won the Oscar 2020 in three "technical" categories: "BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY", "BEST VISUAL EFFECTS" and "BEST SOUND MIXING". This is not surprising as the film was shot "in one take" and the editing is almost imperceptible, resulting in a special artistic value and a sense of presence in what is happening that evokes empathy for the heroes. The experienced hand of the director, cameraman Roger Deakins, and editing specialist Lee Smith cannot be denied. This story has been awarded two Golden Globes, seven BAFTA masks (the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award), and the Golden Eagle Award 2021 for "The Best Foreign Film at the Russian Box Office".

“Dark Waters", Directed by Todd Haynes
In the same category is Todd Haynes’ "Dark Waters", which is based on real events and tells the story of the court case of lawyer Robert Bilott, who opposed a large American corporation polluting the environment. The development of the storyline keeps the viewer in suspense, and the wonderful performance of Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway evokes a wide range of emotions.
A few more films that are worth paying attention to in this category: "The August Virgin" by Spanish director Jonás Trueba, "Drunk", a nominee for the Golden Globe 2021 in the category "BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM" directed by Thomas Vinterberg, and "Corpus Christi" by Polish director Jan Komasa.
