“Art Becomes the key to the Heart of Miami”
FILLIN Magazine Publisher Dmitry Chograshi Reflects on the Developing Art Center that is Miami

A city brimming with contrasts, a mixture of cultures, both luxurious and idle, nightclubs, endless snow–like beaches, and 365 sunny days a year are all familiar Miami associations. However, another distinct facet of this bustling metropolis lies in the dynamic development of the city's art market.

The founder of the FprBuro (a brand-building communications agency centered in art & culture, fashion, lifestyle, and business) and FILLIN MAG publisher, Dmitry Chograshi, went to explore the art of the "New World." While on a business trip for the execution of new art projects across the Atlantic Ocean, the hero of our "Lifestyle – Travel" section drove through iconic Florida locales to share his experience and impressions with FILLIN Mag readers.

Contemporary art lives a busy life as its frenzied rhythm is felt heavily throughout Miami. Important to remember when planning a trip to Miami is that early December is best, although arrangements should typically be made a year in advance. In addition to Art Basel Miami and the adjoining satellite fairs, the city welcomes art collectors and aesthetes to its diversity and beauty, which manifests in almost everything: from architecture to the entertainment industry and lifestyle.

Unlike the seasonal contemporary art fair, which lays a pathway to a large art market for many artists, there is a more localized venue that has been actively bolstering talents along with the headliner for the past few years - this is the Wynwood district. A real street art museum in the open air near the bustling centers of Midtown and Miami Design District. A must-see attraction is the infamous Wynwood Walls featuring the work of Shepard Fairey Os Gemeos, Okada San Miguel Murakami, and many other street artists. From a business point of view, this is an Wynwood Walls ̶ Image courtesy of: The Wynwood Walls excellent example of the transformation of a depressed warehouse area into a cultural cluster of galleries, shops, and cafes envisioned by developer Tony Goldman.

Wynwood isn't the only place for such feats, as they are spotted throughout Miami in different spheres, especially in architecture and the entertainment industries. Amongst the towering skyscrapers of Brickell City Center and Downtown Miami, the designs of leading architects of the world are found, such as Zaha Hadid with the One Thousand Museum residential building (voted among the ten best skyscrapers in the world according to Wealth-X), Ram Koolhaas with the ambitious Park Grove complex, and Frank Gehry (designer of the symphonic New World Center Theater). For connoisseurs of sports cars from Ferdinand Porsche, observe the high-rise of Porsche Design Tower, equipped with a unique robotic parking system that delivers residents from their automobiles to their residences. Soon, Porsche Tower will compete with the 66-story skyscraper by English automaker Aston Martin, from the architects of Revuelta Architecture and Bodas Miani Anger. In a captivating Art Deco style, the space will showcase colonial echoes transformed into a Tropical Deco under the influence of climatic features, uniting about 800 architectural monuments in the South Beach Miami area. Moreover, Aston Martin incorporated an art gallery as a necessary element of the building, along with a fitness center, a terrace with a swimming pool, a helipad, and concierge services. Art should be in every house or condominium as it becomes the key to unlocking contrasts, appeal, and the luxuries of Miami. It is logical for a city where a super-yacht or a designer motorboat surprises no one.

Any new-build project in Miami is thoughtfully handled, attracting the best construction and design bureaus for the task. Striking conceptual design is vital as competition is fierce. For example, in the Icon Brickell complex, the columns are stylized as the faces of huge idols from Easter Island. Art installations play a leading role in the reputation and visual appeal of the location, so collaborations and public art are often featured. Daniel Popper, a talented artist and sculptor from South Africa, utilized organic integration. His epic work in the form of a bust of a concrete woman provocatively revealing her green "living" heart to the world- without restriction or prejudice, became the center of attention to the Society Las Olas residential complex in the Fort Lauderdale quarter.

Savvy business officials, entrepreneurs, and developers determine cultural buildings or objects envisioned for their districts. So did businessman Alan Faena during the construction of the Faena Hotel and Faena Forum, which is now a successfully developing platform for modern exhibitions and performances. Additionally, Alan possesses Faena Bazaar, attracting fashion lovers to its unique space designed by the already mentioned Rem Koolhaas and his studio OMA. Here, shopping becomes art, with both prominent luxury brands and fledgling designers. Along the way, one will meet new site-specific murals or installations by gifted artists, who are selected for cooperation every three months by the Faena Art team. The boom in contemporary art is shining brightly through more and more neighborhoods.

The dynamics of a fast-growing Miami revolves around the ocean and its many channels, including human-made canals, making travel by boat convenient, very similar to Venice, only modernized. But for everyday acquaintance with the city, this pleasure is not suitable. Renting a car has become an excellent solution to visiting all locations, offering stunning views intertwined with the local rhythm and incredible freedom, ideal for business negotiations in various areas. Among the large selection of premium brands, I chose the Rolls-Royce Dawn Blue convertible, which became my companion in exploring the rich infrastructure. Special thanks to Pugachev Luxury Car Rental – a company with family traditions and a high standard of work.

While driving at a low speed, it's pleasant to ride along Biscay Boulevard to the Miami Art Museum or along Collins Avenue, passing numerous luxury hotels and a line of pristine beaches. Another advantage of a ground view of Miami is exploring the stunning views from the multilevel interchanges of the Atlantic Ocean, skyscrapers, and even murals…yes, some of them are perfectly visible and decorated on the walls of Wynwood by street art masters

On high-speed highways, especially if you go to a paid dedicated lane or take a ride with the breeze on the Overseas Highway to Key West, the car will give a completely new driving experience and memorable impressions of the trip. The reward on the way will be the southernmost city of the continental USA, where Ernest Hemingway spent several very fruitful years of his life. His house, now a museum, is open to visitors providing an immersive look into his creative atmosphere full of thirst for discovery, and the writer's personal belongings: typewriter, paintings, photos, rare furniture, and the six-fingered remains of Hemingway's beloved cat, Snowball.

Returning to Miami, along the scenic road connecting the Florida Keys archipelago, it is worth stopping at the beautiful Morada Bay place, where you can meet a beautiful sunset and enjoy the night sky while dining on the balcony or at the foot of the restaurant building. Ideal for taking memorable photos. Another location for bright photoshoots was Key Biscayne Island. This location graced the WS Story Magazine cover in September 2021 with my business partner, cofounder, and creative director of FprBuro – Oleg Tarnopolskiy, shot by a talented photographer Alice Ray. It's a small paradise oasis where even Miami residents come for recreation and sports, such as tennis, golf, windsurfing, and diving. Golden sand beaches, tropical flora and fauna, mangrove forests…and peacock…

The demand for comprehensive lunches and dinners has affected gastronomic establishments. Therefore, restaurateurs strive to please the sophisticated public, not only with culinary masterpieces but also in aesthetic terms. For an afternoon coffee break, I recommend visiting several places symbolic of the world of art and fashion and highlighting Miami's international status on the map of world brands. There's Fendi Cafe in its bright yellow design, offering delicious Italian cuisine enriched with local seafood. The pop-up Cafe Dior and its aromaticallydelicate coffee in a recognizable decor found on a terrace surrounded by greenery. Finally, the Baccarat Boutique Bar & Lounge offers a kaleidoscope of signature cocktails and, of course, their renowned colored crystals. A must-stop for lunch-style content for stories.

For the evening, you should prepare a variety of fashionable outfits in anticipation of visiting one of the most popular hotels in Miami today – The Good Time Hotel. Here, one can enjoy a cocktail before dinner at Strawberry Moon, often encountering "A star list" celebrities. For example, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez, either conversing comfortably by the pool or on a boar branded with the Burberry monogram with founders Pharrell Williams and David Grutman, who often visit personally to greet the star guests of their store.

Coral Gables, a city in Miami-Dade, appears completely different in spirit – it is a "corner" of Europe, transferred across the Atlantic. Architectural monuments, such as the Biltmore Hotel building and the Venetian Swimming Pool, became its hallmarks over a decade ago. A little to the east, in Coconut Grove, one is plunged into the luxuries from the last century. Villa Vizcaya Museum & Gardens was the winter residence of James Deering, a famous industrial magnate, and collector. The estate and garden are in an Italian style. Taking a tour across the grounds, the estate is rich with history in its construction and the arrangement of the territory itself. Many furniture pieces and works of art left a mark on the cultural heritage of Florida.

The resort town has blossomed with bright colors in the last few years and has become a real Mecca for art professionals and enthusiasts, fashion influencers, and businessmen and women. Miami's connection with these industries is just beginning as it garners momentum with immensely inspiring potential. Such comforts and ease of travel were possible thanks to Wolsen Real Estate. A special thank you to its founder Denis Smykalov and Alexandra Beloborodova (Head of Sales), who took care of my accommodations in Miami.
